This Rite is for Adults who wish to be fully initiated into the Catholic Community. It is suitable for those who have never been baptised, and can be modified to help those who have been baptised in another Christian Church but now wish to be Catholic. It can also be modified for those who have been baptised in the Catholic Church as a child, but have not been catechised.
The process involves four stages:
Inquiry Stage: Weekly sessions are usually held in February and August. (Time: several weeks/months. No fixed length of time.)
Catechumenate: As well as meeting as a group focusing on the Word of God on Sundays, weekly discussion groups are also offered. A Parish sponsor accompanies each catechumen. (Time: Several months/years. No fixed length of time.)
Immediate preparation for Sacraments of Initiation: This normally takes place in Lent and is a time of reflection and prayer. (Time: Approx. forty days.)
Post Sacrament Time: After the Easter Sacraments, the newly initiated are supported as they live out their new role in the community. (Time: Approx. seven weeks.)
Further information is available from the parish office at any time of the year.
